Do children need a ticket?
Children under 12 can enter free with a parent or guardian of parental age.
Rainbow Serpent Festival does have a limited capacity, and while the festival has not historically sold out our numbers are increasing each year so we advise you to buy your tickets early to avoid possible disappointment.
Getting there:
What are the site opening and closing times?
Gates usually open at 12pm on the Thursday prior to the festival. The music and activities officially kick off on Friday afternoon and concludes by Monday evening. All patrons are asked to leave the site by midday the following day. (Tuesday) Rainbow will notify patrons through the website and Facebook page if there are any changes to these times.
The site is in Western Victoria, under two hours drive from Melbourne. Directions to get to the festival will be published on the website closer to the date.
Rainbow also runs air-conditioned luxury charter buses from Melbourne, details can be found on the Rainbow website from early October.
There will also be shuttle buses running between Beaufort and the festival site. Beaufort can be reached by train from Melbourne. Check V-Line for details on timetable and tickets. www.vline.com.au
Onsite:
Rainbow Serpent has a large space for camping for all patrons, complete with toilets, showers and free water. There are 2 distinct camping areas – North and South. There will also be a quiet area for families with children. We will publish a map of the campsite closer to the event date.
Yes. However there are no specific facilities for campervans like powered sites.
No, generators are strictly forbidden! No renegade soundsystems either. Please be respectful of your neighbours.
Can I hire accommodation onsite?
No, we do not have accommodation for hire once you are on site. We do however have Teepees and Gers/Yurts that you can organise to hire prior to the festival. Details will be up on the website from the start of October.
This is a camping event. Bring all the items that will help make your camp comfortable. We recommend that you bring poles, tarps and other infrastructure to create a shaded campsite. There are few trees in the camping area so creating your own shade is an important consideration.
Prepare for all sorts of weather. Rainbow can be very hot during the day and very cold at night. There is also the chance for rain, and the potential for wind. Make sure everything in your campsite is tied down as strong winds can hit without notice and cause havoc for any ill-secured campsite.
Free water is available on site but it is recommended that you bring your own supply. There will be plenty of yummy food available for purchase in the market area. It can also be quite noisy among the campsites, so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
Rainbow is a BYO event. You can bring reasonable amounts of your own alcohol to Rainbow and the festival encourages responsible drinking. However, glass is strictly forbidden and this will be enforced.
Boots/Cars/Esky will be checked and any glass found will be confiscated, so time to start thinking about what you can buy that you like in cans and kegs. We ask that our patrons please do the right thing and leave the glass at home. In the end, this mostly small inconvenience over a series of years, will keep our new home safe for bare feet, kids and animals and we think that's more than a fair trade off.
There is a total fireban operating during Rainbow Serpent festival. ABSOLUTELY no candles, BBQs, gas stoves or fires permitted at the event. Only gas cookers, which have been professionally installed inside vans or campers are permitted to be used. If conditions are safe a supervised area for fire-twirling will be made available at specified times, check with info tent or fire safety staff for details. Check for more detailed fire safety information on the website and in the event handbook provided on arrival.
Do NOT bring/do the following:
- No weapons
- No campfires
- No glass
- No amplified sound systems
- No cooking using an open flame
- No generators
- No pets
- No illicit drugs
- No motorised bikes
No animals allowed except guide dogs.
NO, so we recommend you stock up on cash prior to arriving at the event.
Is there mobile phone reception?
There is occasionally some mobile reception on site at certain spots, but coverage will depend on your network and we recommend you don’t rely on it.
There is no designated spot for swimming on site, however there will be a pool party on the Saturday afternoon in Beaufort, with a shuttle bus to transport patrons back and forth.
You can leave the festival at any time over the weekend as your wrist band is your passout. DO NOT lose your wrist band... it’s your best friend. Please keep in mind that cars may not be driven around the campground during the event and access gates to an area may be closed once the area is full. If you drive away from your campsite during the event, do not expect to be able to drive back to your campground area. If you need to leave during the event, best to leave your car in the general parking area.
